 | Hardening
of the arteries, or what we call "arteriosclerosis", is a condition where the
arteries thicken and lose elasticity due to deposits of calcium and plaque (cholesterol)
on the arterial walls. The arteries harden and become brittle, interfering with
the normal flow of blood through the vessel. This, in turn, can lead to a heart
attack or stroke. In addition, blood vessels are more susceptible to rupture,
critically affecting organs such as the heart or the brain. |
Arteriosclerosis can be responsible
for these medical conditions | |
According to "The World Health Report 2004", death
factors highly related to arteriosclerosis rank number 1 and 2 globally: ischemic
heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease. Moreover, arteriosclerosis is also
highly correlated to cerebral hemorrhage, stroke, angina pectoris, renal sclerosis,
etc. |
