Precautions

¡@ Patients having Osteoporosis need to consult the doctors to find the cause and ask doctors for right prescription. Possible causes can be primary (aging and menopause) or secondary (diseases or medicines.) Common instructions to improve the conditions are through diets and life styles. Following medicines are common prescriptions:

1. Calcium supplementation
Patients must not take calcium more than 600 mg each time and exceed 1.5g per day. Patients cannot take the medicine with BHA-containing food, cola, spinach, bread or wheat flakes. This prescription is not appropriate for all patients; please consult your doctor first.

2. Estrogen (Female hormone)
Women in the peri-menopausal period or having ovary excision (oophorectomy) can take Estrogen to prevent Osteoporosis and heart disease. Hormone is safe and effective only with doctor prescription. Patients who have liver disease, high blood pressure (hypertension), hyperlipidemia, breast cancer, Myoma Uteri or apoplexy should not take estrogen.

3. Calcitonin
Calcitonin can inhibit bone resorption and relieve pain. At present, there are calcitonin extracted from salmons and eels; however, those are too expensive to prevail in the market.

4. Active Vitamin D
This medicine can help the body to absorb Vitamin D as well as to balance Calcium and phosphorous so as to prevent Osteoporosis. But you should avoid overdose of Vitamin D; that would destroy bone cells.

5. Sodium fluoride
According to US research, it can prevent spine fracture and restore bone mass by taking Calcium and Sodium fluoride, which prevents decayed teeth.
